Our Craft

Traditional carpentry and joinery has been used for thousands of years, standing the test of time by proving stronger and more durable than many modern methods that rely solely on fasteners and adhesives. Whilst always staying ahead of the curve with new processes, with decades of experience behind us, we understand the value of staying true to our craft. As fully qualified, time-served bench hand joiners, we’re passionate about our craft in order to ensure the authenticity of our products.

Our favourite joints.

The dovetail.

Dovetail joints are a sign of a true craftsman. Noted for their resilience to pull apart, these finger-like joints between two pieces of wood enable a tight, strong, and long lasting fit. Traditionally dovetail joints require zero mechanical fasteners, making them more attractive to many of our customer that value authentic craftsmanship.

The Mortise
& Tenon.

The mortise and tenon joint is the most ancient traditional joint and has been found in the wooden planks of a vessel dating back to 2,500 BCE; proving itself to be able to stand the test of thousands of years. One of the reasons traditional joinery like mortise and tenon joints withstands the test of time so well is that it allows a joint to naturally expand and contract with moisture and temperature changes in the environment.

High quality hardwoods.

Oak.

We use european prime grade oak, dressed in-house in our workshop to meet our standards. A popular hardwood known for it’s stunning grain and light biscuit or deep brown colour. It’s attractiveness combined with it’s durability make it one of our favourite woods to work with.

Accoya.

Starting it’s life as a fast-growing pine tree, accoya is highly rot-resistant and very stable in high moisture conditions. This makes it ideal for facades; all without the use of preservatives. Accoya wood is Class 1 durable, surpassing even the most durable tropical hardwoods such as teak.
